Diatoms are the most species-rich group of microalgae on Earth, indispensable sentinels of aquatic health, key contributors to global biogeochemical cycles, and an enduring source of morphological fascination. Despite Asia's extraordinary freshwater biodiversity and a long tradition of diatomology across the continent, there has been no dedicated continental forum where researchers, practitioners, and students working on diatoms can converge.

The 1st Asian Diatom Meeting aims to fill that gap, bringing together the global diatom community to exchange ideas, forge collaborations, and chart the future of the discipline from an Asian perspective. Hosted by the Aquatic biodiversity research laboratory, which is the Key laboratory of Heilongjiang Province, and it is also one of China’s most active centers for freshwater diatom taxonomy, biomonitoring and resource utillization of algae, the meeting warmly welcomes participants from academia, government agencies, environmental consultancies, industry, and civil society, irrespective of geographic origin.
